What did you want to be when you grew up?

What did you want to be when you grew up?

How many of you are doing a job that you got a degree in? Or started out towards?

Do you feel like you were destined to do the job you are doing?

I was watching The Dig on Netflix (great film!) which is about the discovery of the Anglo-Saxon ship burial at Sutton Hoo in Suffolk and I felt a bit of sadness. I studied Ancient History & Archaeology at university and was partly inspired by Sutton Hoo to apply for that course.

I’ll go back a bit. When I was 16 I did my Silver Duke of Edinburgh (HATED it!) and unbeknownst to me, we went right past the site of Sutton Hoo. When I started my History A-Level one of the first things we studied was Sutton Hoo and I found out then that I had been within 1 mile of it and had no idea. I was fascinated! From that point on my favourite period of history was ancient. It was also partly what led me to chose Ancient History & Archaeology as a uni course. The other options were Marketing or American History. How different my life could have been!

So when I watch programmes about archaeology I always get a pang of “what if?” and “why didn’t I stick with it?” and then I remember why. I didn’t actually enjoy the archaeology side of things! Loved the finds processing and working in a museum, which I’ve done in spades, so it was no great shakes that I didn’t pursue archaeology as a career.

I also remember that during my course I was became fascinated by other cultures and also their adornments like jewellery. The jewellery, gold and metalwork found at Sutton Hoo are gorgeous! I also studied ancient Egyptian jewellery as part of my study project when I was lucky enough to travel to Egypt.

Outside the Cairo Museum on my Egyptology study tour in 1996

For most of my life, I have been interested in jewellery from different cultures and the past which links me nicely to my business. Maybe I’m doing what I’m meant to be doing after all? If you believe in destiny, fate an’ all that 😉

Have you ever visited Sutton Hoo? It’s now run by the National Trust and they have a fabulous visitor centre. I have been several times and I love it. As you can see I love to dress up while I’m there!

Did you know….

Burial mounds are the first forms of burials we can readily see in the landscape today. Nowadays we use cemeteries, graveyards and so on. My next collection will be influenced by these fascinating places so keep your eyes peeled for some sneaky peaks on social media soon!

Skull jewellery offers to cheer you up!

Hiya! So 2021 hasn’t been the new shiny start we’d all hoped for right? It’s basically 2020 Version II and I think we’re all feeling a bit down in the dumps. Am I right?

In the meantime, I will try and brighten your day with lots of offers on my jewellery.

Firstly, my last of my January Sales weekend offers starts today and this week it’s 30% off all earrings on my website! As usual, all you have to do is put the earrings you want in your basket and remember to add EAR30 in the coupon box before checking out.

Secondly, I have a special offer on my copper stacking rings until Valentines Day which isn’t available on the website!

I’m offering you the chance to buy 2 different style rings for £30 so you can wear them together or gift one to someone special. Just email me if you’d like to take advantage of this offer.

My final offer is over on Etsy until the end of January where I have 20% off everything!

As you may have noticed I’m having a bit of a clear-out and that’s because I’m planning on launching a whole new brand soon. I don’t have a confirmed date yet, but the website is being worked on, the designs are being finalised and my photography is being booked so keep everything crossed for my launch soon!

In meantime, why not treat yourself to some items that are being discontinued?

Stay safe and spooky everyone!

Another lockdown, another (safe) workaround!

Hi again!

So that recent news sucks, right?! Another national lockdown. I guess we all saw it coming but it’s still a pain for small businesses who rely on our markets. I get it though. We need to be careful and I’m all for that. I won’t let it get me down 🙂

As I did last time, I wasn’t able to do real-life markets I have linked up with some awesome online markets instead.

First up is a last minute January Sales event this Saturday night with The Curious Exchange so check out my social media for more information.

Then I’ll be taking part as a guest trader with the fabulous Alternative Market on Facebook on Friday 29th from 7pm – 11.30pm.

The lovely Facebook groups I joined for Christmas are also continuing which is great so don’t forget to show them some love as there are some fabulous makers on there too.

Finally, and by no means least my next January sales offer is available from today which is 30% off all necklaces on my website! All you need to do is pop to my website, put the necklace(s) you want in your basket and add NECK30 in the coupon box before checking out.

Go on…what are you waiting for? Treat yourself! ;D

I get locked down but I get up again!

At the end of October, you may remember I was blogging about how I was excited for all my November markets. I had at least one every weekend and I couldn’t wait!

Then lockdown 2.0 happened and my skull jewellery business had to adapt overnight.

This is the same for a lot of small businesses in England right now. Indeed, all over the world businesses are having to rethink how we sell our products and whether we actually can.

This month I have had to cancel my stalls at both Warrington Makers Market and Levenshulme Market in Manchester. I was sad about both these but as it was my debut at Levy Market I was really disappointed with that cancellation.

Never one to fall down and not get up, I was already thinking about what I could do if lockdown happened and I decided that online markets was something I should actively push for. I am lucky in that I can resort to my online presence to sell my jewellery and you lovely people who read this blog 😉

Luckily, I had already signed up to Makers Market From Home this coming Sunday and I can’t wait to do that again. You may remember me taking part in MMFH several times over the Summer. An Instagram based market that supports makers from all over the world, it’s happening this Sunday from 10am. There are 85 makers and indie businesses taking part this time, so you’re bound to find a Christmas present for even the most difficult person to buy for.

I have also signed up to 4 different ongoing Facebook based Christmas Markets (yes Halloween is over now so I can say the C word!). You can find links below:

UK Virtual Christmas Market

The Virtual Birmingham Christmas Gifts Market

Warrington Virtual Christmas Market

Virtual Christmas Markets – Cheadle, Cheadle Hulme, Heald Green & Gatley

I am also advertising on Support Local Grappenhall, Thelwall, Lymm which isn’t strictly a market but it is a marketplace for local businesses in the Warrington area.

I have listed them all on the front page of my website too.

In the meantime just keep checking my social media accounts as that’s where I usually announce my upcoming events first.

My last skull jewellery offer is a doozy!

Where has the time gone eh? It’s only 5 more days until Halloween! Hurrah. What are your plans? I can’t wait to spend it watching my fav comedians doing an online gig about serial killers. “What?!” I hear you say. You read that right it’s called “All Killa No Filla” and if you’re not familiar it’s a brilliant podcast devoted to talking about serial killers and general hilarious chit chat. It’s performed by Kiri Pritchard-McLean and Rachel Fairburn and if you’ve not listened to it yet and true crime is your bag then check it out. I listen on Spotify, but they have other channels too.

I’ve taken a break from markets for a coupla weekends, but November is chockablock with events and I’m super excited to be returning to Warrington on 8th November and for my first every Levy Market on 14th November. I’ve also got 2 online markets and a fair few other treats in the works. Check out the front page of my website for more info.

In November I’ll have an exciting announcement for you so stay tuned for that!

Last but not least it’s also time for me to announce my final skull jewellery offer. I’ve saved the best ‘til last of course! This weekend, Halloween itself, I am offering buy one get one free on all earrings. That’s 50% off! All you need to do is pop to my website, put the earrings you want in your basket and remember to add BOGOFEAR in the coupon box before checking out. If you can’t see what you’d like drop me a DM about a commission 😊

In the meantime, and as always stay spooky folks!

I’ve got your Halloween half term activity sorted!

Hi again! You’ve probably realised Halloween this year is going to be very different. No trick or treating (or there shouldn’t be but ya know some people might) and no parties 🙁

As far as I’m concerned this does not mean Halloween is cancelled. Maybe we have to celebrate differently and that’s ok. I am spending the evening dressing up and watching my favourite comedians do a live online show. I may even have some treats (no tricks!) 😀

It’s also half term soon and you’re probably looking for something spooky for you or your (older) kids to do? Well, I’ve got just the thing with my next offer!

My skull earring kits are perfect for those days when you can’t go out, the TV only has terrible reruns and you’ve played all the board games. Not only that but this weekend I’ve got 20% off my earring kits.

All you need to do is pop to my website, put the kit(s) you want in your basket and remember to add EARKIT20 in the coupon box before checking out.

So far I’ve got no other markets scheduled for October but my November is set to be busy. I’m really looking forward to another Makers Market From Home online market (you may remember me doing these in the Summer?). I’ve also got an awesome brand new market at the end of November in Warrington 😃 I’ve also got my debut at Levy Market 😁

Find more details of my markets on the front page of my website.

In the meantime pop to my shop and stock up on your Halloween jewellery.

Stay spooky folks!

Another skull jewellery offer you say?

That’s right! It’s time for my 3rd skull jewellery offer to be announced. Where is the time going?!

This coming weekend I’ll have 20% off all my bracelets and that includes the new range I’ve recently designed. If you’re following me on social media you’ll be aware but if not (and why not?!) here are some pics

I decided to design a simpler version of my macramé bracelets and have various crystal or gem options. These can be made without a skull if you’d like but why would you want to?

I have tigers eye, goldstone, turquoise, rose quartz and many others. Each type has a matching skull bead but you can also choose to change the colour if you want. Just click on the link and pick your selection.

I’m also adding more and more markets to my list on my front page. I’m super excited to announce that I’m now working part time in my job so I can focus more energy on making and selling my skull jewellery. Why not come and visit me in person at one of my upcoming markets?

I’m also planning on doing a couple of online markets such as the Curious Exchange Market which is totally goth and another Makers Market From Home which is a “C word” market. And no I’m not swearing! C stands for that festive time of year and I refuse to use the C word under Halloween is out of the way.

Until then stay spooky folks! It’s only 20 days to Halloween…

Hi again everyone!

It’s officially Autumn as of last Tuesday and I am already digging out my winter jumpers and boots. I absolutely adore this time of year (just in case you’ve missed my subtle hints! 😉) and I love going through my winter wardrobe. I really enjoy rediscovering my cosy clothes and boots. I bought a pair of boots earlier this year that never really had a run out so I’m excited to get those on!

Spooky Season Markets & Skull Jewellery Offers

Howdy there!

So, it’s 41 days to Halloween and I don’t know about you, but I’ve been ready for this for ages! It’s my absolute favourite season of the year. The leaves turning and falling, the smell of woodsmoke, the nights drawing in, the warm cosey clothes and boots and OF COURSE pumpkin-spiced everything! I’m rather disappointed that a certain coffee chain isn’t releasing their usual Autumnal offering until October, unlike previous years!

Luckily, as you would imagine, I have my own pumpkin flavoured coffee already in my cupboards.

To mark the spooky season I am running 5 weekends of my skull jewellery offers for you with up to 50% off! I’ll be posting about these on social media so if you aren’t already following me why not start now? Don’t worry if you don’t do social media as I’ll give you full details in my next email.

I have also been busy booking up Makers Markets and I have a new one to add! I shall be at The Great Northern Makers Market in Manchester on 4th October. This is my first Manchester market I’ve done so it would be amazing to see as many of you as possible. I’ll have lots of special offers on, obvs!

I’m also going to be doing Warrington Maker’s Market on 11th October and potentially some other Manchester Markets. As soon as dates are confirmed I’ll let you know.

That’s all for now. Weirdly the sun is shining as I write this so it seems a bit odd to be thinking about gorgeous Autumnal things but I can definitely feel it in the air. Stay safe and spooky folks and I’ll leave you with this awesome gif of Vincent Price being attached by a vamp Kermit!
